One evening last summer I headed out to the Belleville area to find subjects for night photos. At the end of this search, I stopped by Zwick Park along Belleville’s water and found some trees that were candidates for experimenting with off-camera flash.
The challenge was to illuminate the various layers of the tree’s branches and leaves yet show the stars above them. To do this, I used two remote flashes placed off camera but under the canopy, and a 5-second exposure. In this photo, I managed to capture the trees and interesting shadows plus clouds and stars.
